In August, it will be 35 years since the Baltic Way, one of the world’s most remarkable protests. In this peaceful demonstration, about two million people formed a 670 km long human chain between Tallinn, Riga, and Vilnius. The demonstration was a decisive step towards the independence of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania and inspired other regional independence movements.

The stages of the human chain that took place 35 years ago are depicted in photos and words in an exhibition held in the corridor gallery of Sanomatalo from August 1 to 31. “The Baltic Way 35 – The day holding hands changed history” exhibition is free for the public and open during Sanomatalo’s opening hours.
