Today 21 March, Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu and Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto held a video meeting for a detailed discussion on cooperation between the two countries in responding to the coronavirus crisis and new issues caused by the virus. Representatives from the ministries of the interior and social affairs from both countries also attended the meeting.
A decision was made to form an Estonian-Finnish taskforce to map the issues caused by the coronavirus crisis and decide on cooperative measures.
Both ministers wished their respective nations strength in containing the virus.
“The relations between Estonia and Finland cannot be severed even during the coronavirus crisis. We discussed various solutions for managing this pandemic together. Now the taskforce must draw up its proposals,” Reinsalu said.
Reinsalu emphasised that today’s meeting was mostly related to Finland’s decision to stop shuttle migration for Estonians working in Finland. The agenda included various other topics related to transport, public health measures and supporting each other in fighting the virus.
