Art Ii Biennial

On 11 June, the Art Ii Biennial opens in Northern Finland, featuring a selection of works from the Estonian technological art exhibition Wild Bits. Held in the municipality of Ii, around 35 kilometres north of Oulu, the biennial is part of the official programme of the European Capital of Culture Oulu2026.

Presented in collaboration with the Estonian residency centre Maajaam, Wild Bits brings together environmental art, technology and research-based artistic practice, exploring the relationship between nature, technology and humans in a rapidly changing world.

This year’s biennial theme is solastalgia, the sense of loss and disorientation caused by changes in one’s familiar environment. The programme includes 13 site-specific artworks examining human-nature relationships, Nordic identity and belonging.

Three works from the Wild Bits programme are on display, including Up and Down by the German artist duo Heidundgriess, as well as new works by Estonian artist Ivar Veermäe and the Danish-German duo August Honoré and Tobias Zimmer.

The Art Ii Biennial remains open until 31 July. Participation of Wild Bits is supported by the Cultural Endowment of Estonia and the Estonian Ministry of Culture.
