On the European Day of Languages, 26 September, the linguistic diversity of Europe will be celebrated at the Helsinki Oodi Central Library.

The program for the Day of Languages includes a Language Café, and from 17:00–18:00, everyone is invited to the 3rd floor of Oodi, where a passage from the ancient Greek epic “The Odyssey” will be recited in various European languages. The Estonian-language passage, translated by August Annist, will be read by Katrin Kesklaas.

The event is free of charge and will take place on the “Saarikoski carpet” on the library’s third floor.

The reading from the ’Odyssey’ is organized by the European Commission Representation in Finland together with several EU embassies and language institutes in Finland, as well as with the Svenska nu network, the Finnish Association of Translators and Interpreters, the Nordic Culture Point, FILI – Finnish Literature Exchange, and the Finnish Association of the Deaf.
