The acclaimed Estonian Drama Theatre production “Rahamaa” (Business As Usual) will make its international debut as part of the main programme of the Tampere Theatre Festival.
Written by Mehis Pihla and directed by Hendrik Toompere Jr., the play is inspired by the money laundering scandals that shook the Estonian banking sector. It follows the story of Artur, a young man who starts working at the foreign branch of a prestigious Scandinavian bank and gradually becomes entangled in a world where power, money, and moral compromise intersect. Inspired by real events, the production explores how money laundering has shaped Western societies and politics over recent decades.
Premiered in 2024 as part of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024 programme, Rahamaa became one of Estonia’s major theatre successes, receiving several national theatre awards, including honours for Best Leading Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Original Play, Original Score, and Sound Design.
