The spring season of Music Talsinki opens with award-winning Estonian multi-instrumentalist, singer and composer Mari Kalkun. Her music rises from the silence of forests, ancient stories and the raw beauty of northern nature.
Rooted in Estonian and Võru folk traditions, Kalkun’s music speaks deeply beyond language barriers. On stage she performs on kannel, piano, accordion, guitar and various wind instruments, creating a rich and immersive sound world.
Internationally acclaimed, Mari Kalkun has toured in over 20 countries and captivated audiences at festivals such as WOMEX, WOMAD UK and Celtic Connections.
Her album Stories of Stonia (Real World Records) topped the Transglobal World Music Chart and was awarded Golden Record 2024 in Estonia as well as Ethno/Folk Album of the Year at the Estonian Music Awards.

The live version of the album, released in 2025 and featuring the Estonian National Male Choir, has also received widespread international praise.
The following night, 7 May, Mari Kalkun will also perform together with Antti Paalanen at G Livelab Tampere.
Music Talsinki events are held in cooperation with G Livelab Helsinki, Jazz Estonia and the Estonian Embassy in Helsinki. Supported by the Estonian Ministry of Culture and the Cultural Endowment of Estonia.
