In August, the Turku Music Festival will celebrate Arvo Pärt’s 90th birthday with a grand concert dedicated to his music, conducted by John Storgårds, chief conductor of the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra. Soloists include Hans Christian Aavik and Mari Poll.
In addition, the Sibelius Museum in Turku will open the Arvo Pärt Centre’s exhibition The Formula of Love. Pärt’s music will also be performed by Estonia’s young talents Tähe-Lee Liiv and Marcel Johannes Kits, as well as the ensemble Vox Clamantis under the direction of conductor Jaan-Eik Tulve.
As part of the Night of the Arts programme on August 14, Joonas Sildre will present his graphic novel Between Two Sounds, which tells the story of Arvo Pärt’s musical journey from his childhood up to 1980, when the composer and his family were forced to leave Estonia.
