Estonian ambassador to Finland presented his credentials

Today 22 October, Estonian Ambassador to Finland Sven Sakkov presented his credentials to Finnish President Sauli Niinistö. Due to restrictions imposed in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic, Sakkov presented his credentials virtually.

“The relations of Estonia and Finland have been good and close throughout history. Only four months ago, we had a formal celebration of the centenary of our diplomatic relations,” Ambassador Sven Sakkov said. According to Ambassador Sakkov, the pandemic that has paralysed the world has reaffirmed the importance of relations and reinforced the daily cooperation between the two countries.

Before his appointment, Sven Sakkov worked at the International Centre for Defence and Security.

He has previously worked as the national security and defence adviser of the President of Estonia (1995-96) and as the Director of the Policy Planning Department of the Ministry of Defence. Between 2006 and 2008, he worked at the Estonian Embassy in Washington and from 1998 to 2001, at Estonia’s Representation to NATO. From 2008 to 2015, Sakkov was the Undersecretary for Defence Policy at the Ministry of Defence and was in charge of policy planning, threat assessments, NATO and EU policy, international cooperation and arms control. From 2015 to 2017, Sakkov headed the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence in Tallinn.
