Yesterday, 30 September, Estonian Ambassador to Finland Janne Jõesaar-Ruusalu presented her credentials to the President of Finland Alexander Stubb. In the conversation following the presentation ceremony, the Finnish president and Estonian ambassador reaffirmed the special and very close relations between Estonia and Finland.

“The relations of Estonia and Finland are excellent; we are united by a special kinship and friendship. Our economies are closely integrated and Finland is Estonia’s most important trading partner. In addition, there is a very large Estonian community living in Finland,” the ambassador told the president. “Finland’s accession to NATO has further strengthened relations and opened up opportunities for closer defence cooperation,” the ambassador said.
She commended Finland for its diplomatic efforts to end Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. “We need to jointly respond to Russia’s recent air border violations, strengthen sanctions and continue our comprehensive support for Ukraine. Every year, Estonia contributes 0.25% of its GDP to Ukraine’s military aid,” Jõesaar-Ruusalu said.

Janne Jõesaar-Ruusalu was born in 1969 in Tallinn and graduated from the University of Tartu in 1993 with a degree in mathematics. She joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1993. She has held various positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Estonian Embassy in Helsinki as Deputy Head of Mission. From 2016 to 2020, Jõesaar-Ruusalu was the Estonian Ambassador to Norway and Iceland. From 2020, Jõesaar-Ruusalu was the Director of the Division for South-eastern Europe and the European Union, and from 2022, she has also served as Estonia’s non-resident ambassador to Kosovo.
