Estonian energy technology company Skeleton Technologies has opened a new factory in Varkaus, Finland. The factory will produce supercapacitors primarily designed to meet the energy needs of artificial intelligence data centers.
The factory has two production lines, one for anodes and one for cathodes. The current production capacity is 250,000 supercapacitors per year, with plans to increase this to 2 million within four years.
The core of the supercapacitors is made of niobium oxide combined with curved graphene. The technology is based on research by Kai Vuorilehto from Aalto University, while the software and power electronics have been developed by a team of engineers from Lappeenranta University.
The opening ceremony was attended by Estonian Minister of Energy and Environment Andres Sutt and Finnish Minister of Employment Matias Marttinen, who congratulated Skeleton Technologies on the new production facility.
In his speech, Minister Sutt emphasized the historically close cooperation between Estonia and Finland and highlighted the importance of battery production for Europe and the world. We wish Skeleton Technologies every success as they launch their new factories!
